Weekend Fun

We took some friends camping over the weekend. We went to a place called Vedauwoo...it's about 10 miles from our house, so it was a good economical choice, especially in light of the rising gas prices. It was great fun, although the evening started out a little bumpy. Literally. The girls and I drove the truck and the guys rode in Kyong's car. Well the truck had a blow out...and Jon had taken the spare tire out the weekend before. He and Kyong decided, when they were loading the truck, that we would be fine without the spare, plus then we would have more room. Fortunately we were only about half way there, so they went back to get it. We were glad they were there to save the day! An hour later and ten minutes later we got to the campsite.

We camped on a mountain opposite to an old ski area. It was used something like a hundred years ago, so the "runs" were much shorter than you would expect from a modern day resort. Anyway, so we were in a beautiful little valley and ended up having a blast. It was Jon and me, Kyong & Emi, and Ashaun & Thimi. The boys were boys with their fire building. Emi wins the award for best wood gatherer, and Ashaun learned how to make buffalo burgers. We introduced them to s'mores, played some mean Uno, and then did some hiking the next morning. It was a delightful time and I think everyone had a lot of fun. Here are a couple of pictures from our trip.

Jon's helping Kyong cut his piece of wood that is far too large to be cut with our axe.

Thimi & Ashaun. The Sri Lankans.
